masks
“…dreams have at their command memories which are inaccessible in waking life”   Sigmund Freud

“Dreams come from indigestion”.  Popular saying.

The sleep masks are more about human curiosity and confabulation than dream interpretation.  The viewer studies the face of a sleeping person and must decide if the images are being dreamt or projected.   As a string of images move across a sleeping face, the imagery is generated either internally by the subject or externally by the viewer.  The result is a constantly shifting narrative. The original masks, currently over 350, are made from black felt and gesso.  I am in the process of transferring these into an animation.
